Our history

Naswenda was founded in 2012. The aim of the business was to make a positive social and economic contribution to South Africa while creating value. The business started operating in July 2016 when the founder voluntarily left full time employment

Our Name

The name Naswenda came from a deep consideration of what modern women go through to contribute to family needs financially, create successful careers for themselves and also play a parental role. It was in a way a reminder for the founder that whatever risks she takes in her career and business,  it should never be at the detriment of her children’s future. This, we believe, is what every parent considers before going into business. The name is thus taken from the names of the founder’s children (The first syllable of each child’s name was taken, these were combined to form the name Naswenda).

Furthermore, our reason for existence is to support small businesses to  grow to large enterprises that provide jobs and economic growth in South African and beyond. We have learnt that  In TshiVenda,  -swenda means the early stages of crawling of a baby or support. This meaning is aligned with our objective of providing support to small businesses.

Our Logo

Our logo comes from our core objective of providing support. It resembles inkatha, a cloth generally used by women for support and protection when carrying firewood or water. The cloth is rolled and placed between the head and the item carried. This is symbolic for us as inkatha is support and protection for women while they carry essentials for their families & communities, our role is support SMMEs industry, a lifeline for our communities.

The green colour represents our interest in establishment of new businesses. The colour is associated with newness, it could be in plants or starting anything new. For us, this symbolises small businesses.

The orange colour represents our energetic positive attitude and our tendency to look at the positive side of life. We want this positive attitude to run across the company and every person we encounter.

The turquoise colour , a combination of green and blue, is true reflection of who we are. Our strong information technology background and strong business experience, enable us to offer a unique combination of skills to SMMEs in our programmes.
